Lysa Marie INK Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions our clients ask most, grouped by topic.
Getting started
After you enter your contact information, pick a time and book your free online consultation in our booking system, you will get a confirmation email. After that, you will get a few reminders before and on the day of your consultation appointment. You will receive an email with a link to join 30 minutes prior to your appointment.
No. Everything is by appointment, including consultations. We work one to one in a private treatment room, and nothing is offered same day.
No. The online consultation is free and there is no obligation to book anything afterwards. We do ask for a card on file to hold the appointment, and it is not charged for the consultation itself.
Yes. We are usually booking four to six weeks ahead, but appointments do open up. Tell us you would like the earliest possible date and we will let you know when one does.
Schedule your free online consultation. Every service starts there, so it is the first step whichever treatment you are considering. The easiest and fastest way to get started is to use our website to schedule your consultation appointment online. If you want help getting started just give us a call or email and we will help get you scheduled.
You reach us by online booking, phone or email, and we start you with a free online consultation for the service you are interested in. At that consultation we assess what you need, discuss options, set expectations and review a custom treatment plan tailored for you. You then book your first service appointment. On the day we do the work, aftercare is shared in the portal and discussed in person, and you book your next session before you leave.
We are usually booking four to six weeks ahead. It moves with demand, so it is worth asking rather than assuming.
Of course. Call or email us and we will answer what we can. Most questions need a proper look at your individual situation, so we will usually suggest the free online consultation, which is where we can give you a genuinely useful answer.
No. Everyone starts with a consultation first. It is how we assess what you need, how we can help, agree on your custom treatment plan, and make sure the appointment we book is the right one.
No, but it helps, because consultations are booked per service. Pick whichever one looks closest to what you are after. If another service turns out to be the better fit, we change the plan at your consultation.
Yes, and it happens regularly. Your consultation is online, so you can do it from anywhere. You then travel to us in Marlton for the work itself.
Within 24 to 48 hours, whether you reach us through online booking, our website form, phone or email.
We do not monitor direct messages on social media platform, so a message there may not reach us. Use our website online booking, phone or email and you will get an answer within 24 to 48 hours.
To book your consultation we need your contact details, the service you are interested in, and a card on file. The online consultation itself is free. When you go on to book your first appointment, the $100 booking fee is taken then.
You do not need to work that out on your own. Book a free online consultation for whichever service looks closest to what you are after, and we will assess it with you. If a different treatment suits you better, we adjust the plan before any treatment appointments are scheduled.
Then we change the plan. Finding that out is a large part of what the free online consultation is for, and it is far better to know before an appointment is booked than after.
Bleeding & bloodwork
There is minimal pinpoint bleeding if any, and typically none, so there is very little risk to what you are wearing. You will have a private treatment room to change or prepare in. Gowns are available and bibs are used to protect your clothing
There is very little to see. There is minimal pinpoint bleeding if any, and typically none at all. You are welcome to look away throughout, and you can bring someone with you if that helps. You will experience a comfortable, serene, private treatment room with music and tv and will probably mostly talk with your practitioner and laugh the whole time. No client has ever voiced concerns about this. Most people share that they are very relaxed after we get started.
Minimal pinpoint bleeding if any, and typically no bleeding at all.
Pricing & payment
You pay at the time of your appointment. We do not automatically charge the balance to your card on file.

It depends on your treatment plan, which is why we do not list prices for most services. Every case differs in the area being worked on, the number of sessions it needs, and what you are trying to achieve. We give you a clear price at your free online consultation, before you commit to anything.
The credit is forfeited 24 weeks after the booking fee was collected. Booking a new appointment after that means a new $100 booking fee.

We encourage you to pre-qualify before your consultation but you can also wait to pre-qualify after your consultation appointment, before your first treatment appointment. We accept the standard card types, and we do not distinguish an HSA or FSA card from any other. Whether your treatment is an eligible expense is decided by your own plan, so check with them first.
We do not bill insurance directly. For nipple and areola restoration after breast cancer we provide documentation so you can seek reimbursement from your own insurer.
For nipple and areola restoration after breast cancer, we give you the paperwork you need to submit to your insurer.
No, and we would not promise otherwise. Reimbursement is your insurer's decision under your own policy. What we can do is give you the documentation that gives your claim the best chance.
We give you the paperwork and guidance on what to do with it. We do not submit the claim for you, because it has to come from you as the policyholder.

Yes. Rescheduling inside 48 hours is treated the same as cancelling, because the appointment cannot realistically be filled at that notice.
Yes, touch ups are an additional treatment that is not included as a part of your initial service treatment package. Touch up services are typically needed 3-5 year after you complete your initial service treatment package. The time needed before a touch up service treatment will vary person by person. We discuss this with you at your consultation.

For breast cancer patients, we will discuss how it works and tips to help with insurance reimbursement. We share sample before and after photos relevant to the treatment you need, go through your relevant surgical and medical history, do your intake assessment and review treatment pre-care, day-of-care and post-care. You will have time to ask questions, and there is no obligation to book anything afterwards.
Start online. It is free, it covers the same ground, and you can do it from anywhere. If you would rather be seen in person first, an in-office consultation can be arranged on request for $100.
Lysa Hannigan, our founder, sees clients herself, and our team of certified artists and practitioners is growing.
The in-office consultation takes a treatment room and an appointment slot that would otherwise go to a client having work done, which is why it carries a fee. The online consultation covers the same ground and is free, so it is what almost everyone uses.

Lysa is our nipple tattoo specialist who works with our breast cancer, mastectomy patients and all 3D nipple and areola clients.

Nipple & Areola Tattoos
This will depend on each individual's unique situation and personal preference.
No one has perfectly identical nipples and areolas. The aim is natural harmony between the two sides rather than a forced, identical match.
Every scar and situation is unique. What can be accomplished will be discussed during your consultation.
Athelia, where a person is born without one or both nipples; aplasia, the absence or incomplete development of breast or nipple tissue; and Poland syndrome, which often leaves an underdeveloped or missing nipple and areola on one side. We also work with other conditions that leave a nipple absent, underdeveloped or uneven.
A nipple and areola tattoo is flat, like any tattoo. What creates the look of a raised nipple is artwork. Your artist combines a chosen mix of pigments with shading, highlighting, shadowing and detail work, layered so your eye reads depth that is not physically there.
We do not bill insurance directly. For nipple and areola restoration after breast cancer we provide the paperwork most insurers ask for, so you can seek reimbursement from your own insurer yourself.
The surgically reconstructed nipple gives you the three-dimensional form; the tattoo adds the rich, natural color of a real nipple, uses shadow and highlight to accentuate its projection, and then builds a realistic areola around it with the right size, color gradient and border.
Both, depending on the client's preference and unique situation. We work with the patches rather than painting over them. Layered pigment integrates with your remaining natural color, creating depth rather than a flat covered look, with gradual edge blending so there are no harsh borders.
A stick-on or prosthetic nipple sits on top of the skin. You apply it, you remove it, and you replace it. A nipple and areola tattoo is pigment placed in your skin, so there is nothing to put on, nothing to take off.
